Wheeled Warriors was Mattel's 1985 line of futuristic sci-fi styled vehicles with interchangeable parts. The line is best remembered for its Monster Minds-the villains of the series that looked like tanks combined with organic, plant-like design elements and that featured removable plastic brains riding in their cockpits instead of humanoid drivers. There was very little cohesion between the newsprint advertising, the accompanying media tie-in cartoon and the television commercials. Newspaper ads tell the story of the Lightning League being based on earth and fighting the Monster Minds who are intent on taking over the planet, yet the cartoon was set out in space. While the commericals played up the "Stack and Attack" interchangeability of the vehicle chassis, this feature was never mentioned in the newsprint ads and was interpreted differently in the cartoon. The line consisted of four vehicle assortments split evenly between the two factions plus a fifth assortment containing the headquarters for the Lightning League. The line lasted only one year with all assortments released in 1985 and going clearance by the holiday season of 1986.
